To remove negative information from Crunchbase, you work through three channels: claim and edit the profile directly (most fields are editable once you verify your association), submit a data correction or removal request to Crunchbase support for locked or contested fields, and, for personal profiles, invoke Crunchbase’s privacy and data-deletion process, which is strongest for EU/UK data subjects but available to anyone. What you cannot do is delete accurate funding history, dissolved-company records, or news mentions simply because they’re unflattering. This guide walks through what’s editable, what’s removable, and what to do about the rest.
Crunchbase matters more than most founders realize. Its profiles rank on the first page for most founder and company names, its data feeds AI assistants and journalists doing diligence, and investors check it reflexively. An error there doesn’t stay there. It propagates.
What qualifies for removal or correction on Crunchbase?
Crunchbase separates into two profile types with different rules.
Company profiles are treated as business records. You can correct or update: descriptions, logos, categories, headquarters, leadership, website links, and much of the operational data. You generally cannot remove: legitimate funding rounds, acquisition records, historical name changes, or aggregated news links from Crunchbase’s media partners. Where a data point is wrong (a misreported round size, a misattributed lawsuit, a defunct product listed as current) correction requests succeed regularly when you supply documentation.
Personal profiles carry more leverage. Crunchbase builds people pages from public data, but individuals have rights it honors: you can claim your profile and edit your bio, roles, and photo; you can request removal of personal data under GDPR/UK GDPR if you’re an EU/UK data subject; and even outside those jurisdictions, Crunchbase support processes reasonable privacy requests, particularly for non-public figures, outdated roles, and personal details like education history you never submitted.
The negative information founders most often want gone falls into predictable buckets:
- Failed or dissolved ventures still listed as your current role, editable; move them to past roles with end dates.
- News mentions of lawsuits, layoffs, or disputes, not removable from Crunchbase if accurately aggregated, but addressable at the source article and manageable in search; see our guide to removing news articles.
- Incorrect funding or valuation data: correctable with documentation via support.
- Profiles created about you without consent: removable in many cases, strongest under GDPR; see also personal data removal.
- A co-founder or investor association you dispute: correctable where records support your position.
Step-by-step: correcting and removing Crunchbase information
- Claim the profile. Create a Crunchbase account with a company-domain email and claim the company page and your personal profile. Verification is usually quick for domain-matched emails.
- Fix everything editable first. Update descriptions, roles, dates, links, and imagery. An actively maintained profile also signals to Crunchbase’s team that correction requests are coming from the legitimate owner.
- Document the errors you can’t edit. For locked fields (funding data, acquisitions, personnel records) assemble primary sources: filings, term sheets (redacted as needed), press releases, corporate records.
- Submit correction requests through Crunchbase support. One issue per request, with the incorrect value, the correct value, and the evidence. Specific, documented requests get processed; vague complaints get form replies.
- Invoke privacy rights for personal data. EU/UK residents can demand erasure of personal data under Article 17; Crunchbase has a formal process for this. U.S. residents in states with deletion rights (California among them) have statutory language worth citing. Our GDPR right-to-be-forgotten guide covers how these requests are framed.
- Address the sources, not just the aggregator. Crunchbase re-ingests data from filings and media partners, so a correction can be overwritten by an uncorrected source. Fix the source article or database first where possible, otherwise you’re mowing a lawn that keeps growing back.
- Manage the search result itself. If the Crunchbase page ranks prominently for your name and can’t be fully cleaned, the complementary move is strengthening what ranks around it: your site, Knowledge Panel, authoritative profiles, and earned press. This is standard reputation management architecture for founders and a core part of what we build for executives.

Honest timelines and success expectations
Editable-field changes are live within minutes to days of claiming. Support-processed corrections typically take one to four weeks depending on the evidence and the field. GDPR erasure requests run on a statutory one-month clock, extendable. Removal of an entire unauthorized personal profile, where granted, usually resolves inside a month; search engines then take days to a few weeks to reflect it.
Expect success on: documented factual corrections, role/date updates, and personal-data removals with jurisdictional backing. Expect refusal on: accurate funding history, dissolved-company records, and aggregated news about genuine business events. Any vendor promising to “wipe” an accurate Crunchbase history is describing something Crunchbase does not do, the honest play for accurate-but-damaging records is correction, context, and search-layer strategy, which is where most of the real reputational recovery happens anyway.
Frequently asked questions
Can I delete my company’s Crunchbase profile entirely?
Active companies generally cannot have their profiles deleted, Crunchbase treats them as business records built from public information. Dissolved entities and profiles created in error are the exceptions worth pursuing through support. For most companies, the effective strategy is a corrected, well-managed profile rather than a deleted one.
Can I remove myself from Crunchbase if I never created a profile?
Often, yes. Claim the profile first so you control it, then request removal of personal data through Crunchbase’s privacy process. EU/UK data subjects have the strongest position under GDPR; elsewhere, Crunchbase still honors many reasonable requests from private individuals, though public-figure founders should expect more friction.
Crunchbase shows a lawsuit or negative news about my company. Can that come down?
Not from Crunchbase directly if the aggregation is accurate. The workable route is at the source: corrections or updates to the underlying article, de-indexing where policies allow, and suppression in search. If the coverage contains false statements of fact, that’s a defamation removal matter with its own remedies.
Why did my correction revert after a few weeks?
Crunchbase continuously re-ingests data from partners and filings. If the upstream source still carries the error, it can overwrite your fix. Durable correction means fixing the source record, then the Crunchbase field, then monitoring, which is why we pair corrections with ongoing reputation monitoring.
Does Crunchbase data affect what AI tools say about me?
Yes, Crunchbase is a heavily weighted source for AI assistants answering questions about companies and founders. Errors there surface verbatim in AI answers, which is an increasingly common way diligence gets done. Cleaning structured-data sources is a core part of our AI reputation work.
